Introducing… The Bell Inn Striped Rugby

Introducing… The Bell Inn Striped Rugby

The Bell Inn & William Crabtree have designed a rugby shirt inspired by the classic butchers apron...

Introducing our latest collaboration - the Butchers Stripe Rugby Shirt, with a nod to the traditional butcher's apron favoured by our friends at The Bell Inn, Langford. Grounded in workwear roots, this rugby shirt trades in the usual bands of colours for vertical stripes in indigo navy and off-white. It's a fresh new rugby that's easy to wear and hard to part with... Throw it on with shorts, jeans, cords or whatever's clean - it's a versatile and easy look - for playing or just watching the rugby, on the sidelines or in the pub.

I really recommend a visit to The Bell Inn if you're visiting The Cotswolds - a 15 mins drive from our store in Stow-on-the-Wold. Peter and Tom have created a wonderful country pub experience where you're always given a warm welcome. Their philosophy is much like ours - offering the best quality in a straight forward, unpretentious way. We've had a  is bad a lot of fun creating the Butchers Stripe Rugby and I hope you'll love it too.

See you soon,
JP

Peter Creed and Tom Noest, born and bred in The Cotswolds, reopened the doors to The Bell in Langford eight years ago. Together they now run 6 excellent pubs - 5 in The Cotswolds and a recent opening in London's Shepherd's Bush. All offer a modern country pub feel with the pairs' signature love for a hearty, classic, British menu and a strong focus on genuine hospitality.

What does the classic butchers stripe apron represent to you?
The aprons are a symbol of the pubs hierarchy, signifying that all staff, regardless of their experience, are constantly learning. The stripes also serve a practical purpose, camouflaging stains and signifying the durable nature of the fabric used.

How much of the striped apron is a part of everyday life at The Bell?
It's the first thing staff put on and last thing they take off when working at the bell.

A vertical stripe on a rugby is a first that we know will endure beyond life in the pub. Was it the obvious choice for your inspiration on our rugby shirt collaboration?
Yes for us a very obvious choice, it's a strong part of our brand at the pub. We love them! Not just the pattern but the quality and feel of the shirt is fantastic.

Tell us about your love of rugby and the rugby season?
Rugby's always been part of pub life for us. The sense of community, the intensity of the game, and the way it brings everyone together. Whether you're into the tactics or just there for the atmosphere and a few pints, it's a special time of year at The Bell.

What will you team your new rugby shirts with?
Jeans, muddy boots, and probably a bit of gravy if it's a Sunday.

What's the best thing about being publicans for The Bell and all of your 6 'Publican Pubs'?
Free crisps… Also the people, staff and guests, every day is different, and never dull.

Your favourite thing about living and working in The Cotswolds?
There's a real sense of character here. Beautiful scenery, great local producers, and supportive communities. It's the kind of place where everything feels a little more considered, but never (usually) pretentious.

Where else do you love to visit locally?
For pints The Kings Head in Bledington, for food The Wool Pack in Slad

Favourite current item on your menu?
Devilled Kidneys. They have been on the menu since we opened and are a staple part of our weekly diet.

Two desert island ingredients?
Good unsalted butter and garlic. Assuming we can forage salt from the rocks down on beach? These are core ingredients in the majority of our cooking.

What are you looking forward to in the new season?
Log fires, long walks to the pub, pie, and a few days shooting.
