The New Corduroy

There is something reassuring about the return of corduroy.

With its distinctive handle, warmth and depth of colour, it has long earned its place in the British autumn and winter wardrobe.

Its roots run back to the eighteenth century, when Manchester’s cotton industry helped firmly establish the cloth in British menswear. Initially worn as hard-working breeches and jackets, corduroy brought practicality and character to everyday dressing — qualities that remain central to its appeal today. Equally at home on a country weekend or a working day in town, it brings both a relaxed character to tailoring and a little structure to more casual dressing.

Our new season collection is infinitely wearable - making the most of this versatility, with single-breasted suits in navy and brown, alongside a statement double-breasted jacket in olive.

Worn together, the matching jackets and trousers offer an easy approach to autumn suiting, with a shirt for smarter days or fine knitwear as the temperature drops. There is just as much mileage in wearing them separately: a cord jacket with well-worn jeans or chinos, the trousers with a favourite merino crewneck and chukka boots.

The olive double-breasted jacket brings a stronger silhouette to the mix. Its rich colour and textured cloth lend themselves to simple combinations - an Oxford shirt, dark denim, a soft jumper - with enough presence to pull the whole outfit together.

The return of corduroy means easy autumn style. These are pieces to wear often and make your own, only getting better with age; moving and layering comfortably between town and country, weekday and weekend.

A familiar cloth, with plenty of possibilities for the season ahead.
